Fewer Finer Things No. 2
The ethos behind Fewer Finer is all about better things, and less of them. Rather than minimalism, it's about surrounding yourself with things you love. Ones with meaning, story, and personality.
"Fewer Finer Things" is something I'll share spontaneously. It highlights some of the pieces of my life that fall in to the fewer, finer category; one that encompasses people, places, and physical things.
This past week I was in San Francisco visiting my mom and sister. A few of my aunts also came up and we had a "girl's weekend," which was such a treat! I love occasions without an occasion. They lend themselves to more hang time, more conversation, and, in our case, more good food and wine. We went up north to Scribe Winery and had the best wine tasting experience of my life. The setting was lovely, the wines amazing, and the food exceptional and thoughtful; perfect little bites to join us in our journey through various wines from their vineyards.
The last night in San Francisco, my mom and I had dinner at Zuni Cafe - an establishment with a long history of praise and acclaim. We had an amazing dinner and, after, I was researching the cookbook. I came across rave reviews online for this dish: Fried Eggs in Breadcrumbs. It's so simple but looks perfect, so I think I'll make this weekend.
Last week I went to the annual gala for the Food Education Fund, an organization that supports fundraising for The Food & Finance High School, the only culinary high school in New York City. I've sat on the Jr. Board for the organization for two years and am always eager to tell people about the opportunities the school provides our next generation of culinary talent. I'd love to call your attention to it here - we are always happy for donations or simply a grater awareness for the school. A pair of The Tribeca Tree Leaf Earrings were part of the silent auction and sold to a lucky supporter that night!
My friend and the photographer for most of what you see on Fewer Finer's website, Daniela Spector, was in Mexico City recently and took this photo. I'm in love with this still moment and want to frame it somewhere. She always inspires me with her eye for details that might otherwise be missed.
Another photographer I've been loving is Lauren Bramford. I discovered her on Instagram and stop scrolling each time one of her images comes into my feed. Her photography is so rich with life and character.
This article really made me laugh in a way that's really just a smile and a nod to yourself.
If you asked me what my one beauty product "must have" is, without question I would tell you Kevyn Aucoin's mascara. It was the first mascara brand I owned and I'm positive it will be the only one. My sister Mar feels the same way. It's just the best.
I read this New York Times Magazine piece about New Yorkers who have been doing the same thing for 50 or more years. It really made me think about the craftspeople I work with to make Fewer Finer pieces. Many of them, like my diamond setter, learned their trade overseas at a young age and came to New York for the opportunities. Lots of them, like my engraver, were taught by members of their family and grew up knowing this was an art they would spend their life practicing.
